Colaneri Estate Winery is family owned and operated, beautifully situated on the St. David`s Bench in Niagara`s wine region. The building sits in the heart of the vineyard, within the lush, pulsating vines. We invite you to come visit us and experience the passion that went into making our wines and our home.
More than thirty years ago, the Conaneri family immigrated from Italy and purchased 40 acres of vineyards in Niagara-on-the-Lake. They started as grape growers and produced their first vintage in 2008. Today, the winery is owned by Mike, Nick, and Betty Colaneri and is located on the St. David's Bench.
The impressive winery, which may be Ontario's largest, was designed by Nick Colaneri. It features a unique C-shaped structure that represents the 'C' in Colaneri and pays homage to the family's Italian heritage. One of the highlights of the winery is its massive barrel cellar, a large two-pronged cavern that curves gently beneath the main structure.
The winery opened its doors to the public in 2010, and tasting fees apply. Each family member has chosen a varietal and had a label designed especially for it. Customers enjoy hearing the family's story and the stories behind each label. Visitors feel right at home, as though they are visiting family.
The winery produces a large portfolio of full-bodied wines, including red, white, and dessert wines made in the traditional Italian appassimento method. The winery has also introduced a new series of dessert wines made in the 'recioto' style.
Colaneri Winery takes pride in producing full-bodied wines using the appassimento method. This traditional method involves drying grapes on straw mats to concentrate their flavors and sugars before fermentation. The result is an intense, full-bodied wine with complex flavors and aromas.
