Dark Star was founded in 1994. On any given day they offer around twenty award winning wines, including whites, rosés, creative red blends, common and unusual red varietals and port. In the last four years, under new management, their wines have collected twenty-five awards, including ten 90 – plus point gold medals. Dark Star buys only high quality fruit from the finest local growers, and will soon be adding some limited edition estate wines. Their winemaker calls the pick only when the grapes have reached full maturity and flavor.
All of Dark Star's wines are made, aged and bottled on site. Given the limited production of about 3500 cases per year, they can get to know each of our three hundred and eighty barrels personally, and track the progress of our wines as they mature.
Dark Star is famous for its laid back, comfortable, family and pet friendly atmosphere. Your tasting will consist of eight wines of your choice. Many visiting couples opt to share side by side tastings, so they can compare and contrast the nuances of different varietals or blends.
Your designated driver or other non-drinking companions can enjoy the corn hole game, the observation bee hive, or just hang out with the winery cats and chickens. If they are not too busy, they may offer tours of the vineyard, crush pad, and winery.
